CLAC calls George Knott Reserve home — a six-lane athletics track and grass infield on Heidelberg Rd, Clifton Hill, right on the banks of Merri Creek. We compete here most Friday nights through the season, with Tuesday training on the same track.
The venue at a glance
Here’s what’s where around the track and field:
Club House
Bathrooms, first aid and the front desk are all based here. The Friday night BBQ also sets up alongside it.
Family support zones
Grassed viewing areas on both sides of the main straight — the bleachers, “picnic hill” and “tree hill” — so you can set up wherever suits.
Track Crossing
A marked crossing point near the 100m start is the safe way for athletes and volunteers to cross onto the infield when needed. Please use it rather than crossing elsewhere to avoid impacting in-flight races, and follow the instructions of crossing guards.
Getting there
Parking
Parking is limited around the reserve. Heidelberg Rd runs clearways during peak hours on Friday nights, and parking inspectors are often about, so please stick to designated spaces (and keep off the grassy areas of local walkways). There’s ample parking across Heidelberg Road, along the Esplanade and on Fenwick St in Clifton Hill, with two sets of lights for a safe crossing.
Public transport
- Train: Clifton Hill station (Mernda and Hurstbridge lines) is on Hoddle St, an easy walk down Heidelberg Rd.
- Tram: Route 86 runs along Queens Parade, which becomes Heidelberg Rd — a similar walk from the reserve.
- Bus: Route 546 (Heidelberg Station – Melbourne University) also passes through Clifton Hill.
Dogs & venue rules
No dogs are permitted anywhere on-site, per LAVic policy and Yarra City Council requirements (assistance dogs excepted) — please leave the furry family members at home.
We also ask parents and spectators to stay on the outfield rather than the infield during competition — it keeps coaches and officials able to see what’s happening at each event, and keeps track crossings to a minimum for safety. Full detail on staying safe on the night is in our New Parent Handbook.
