How to sign up for your volunteer shift
Every Friday night at Little Aths runs on parent volunteers. Signing up takes about two minutes, and you don’t need an account or password.
Please book your shifts as soon as your athlete is registered. Each family is expected to sign up for 4 competition nights across the season (or join the committee). Competitor bibs will only be issued once your family’s shifts are booked.
When? Every competition night runs Friday, 5:30pm–7:30pm at George Knott Reserve.
Questions, or can’t volunteer on Friday nights? Email the committee at [email protected]. We’re happy to help.
Why we roster in advance
We know Little Athletics is one of the most cost-effective children’s sports around, and that’s only possible because it’s run by volunteers. Booking ahead means we’re not starting from zero every Friday, and we can track support fairly across all our families through the season. We’ll probably still put out a call each week to fill any gaps.
Booking ahead works for you too:
Coordinate with other families to work the same event on the same night.
Stick with one or two events across the season and you’ll soon feel like an old hand.
Check the competition programs to see where your athlete will be each week.
Know in advance which nights you’ll need someone to help look after younger children.
A request to returning families: our first weeks in October are the busiest of the season, with lots of new families joining us. If you can book your shifts early in the season while new families are getting settled, it would be hugely appreciated.
So please lean in and help keep this amazing community running.
Step by step
Open ClubVolunteer
Go to clubvolunteer.com.au/volunteer/CLAC10. It works on your phone or computer.
Pick a Friday
You’ll see every competition night for the season, with the number of spots still open. Tap the date you want.
Choose a role
Each night lists the roles needed, such as field events, the start and finish line, and the age group chaperones. Tap a role to read a short description.
Not sure which to pick? Read the volunteer roles page for a more detailed description of each role. Every field and track role has a one-page guide, and the coaches and committee are there on the night to help.
Choose the shift
Tap the shift time (5:30pm–7:30pm) to open the sign-up form.
Enter your details and confirm
Fill in:
Then tap Confirm Registration. You’ll get a confirmation email with your shift details.
Remember, we’re asking for 4 shifts per family, not per athlete. A family with three children still does 4 shifts, not 12. In the athlete name field, please include all your children’s names including their surname, e.g. Chris and Liam Worthhems, so we can match your shifts to your family.
Tick Remember my details on this device to make your next sign-up even quicker.
Checking or changing your shifts
Tap Manage my shifts at the bottom of any ClubVolunteer page. Enter your email address and you’ll be sent a secure login link to your volunteer dashboard, where you can see the shifts you’ve signed up for.
Can’t make it? Please let us know as early as possible by emailing [email protected], so we can find someone to cover your role.
On the night
Arrive by 5:30pm and check in with a committee member at the sign-in table. They’ll point you to your station and introduce you to your coach or event lead.
Bring a hat, water bottle and something warm for later in the evening. If you’re chaperoning, please keep your phone away (except perhaps for a quick shot of your child mid-throw or mid-jump!) and stay with your group for the whole night.
Common questions
I have more than one child participating. How many shifts do I need to do?
Just four across the season. Volunteering is linked to families, not individual athletes.
Does it have to be a parent doing our shift?
Not at all! It could be a suitably older sibling, a grandparent, or a family friend willing to step in. If they’re not a parent or carer and are over 18, they’ll need a current Working With Children Check.
What if I can’t physically support any competition nights through the season?
Get in touch with us at [email protected]. There are always committee and behind-the-scenes roles that need less time at the track on Friday nights but still lighten the load for other volunteers.
What if I need to cancel a shift unexpectedly?
Email us at [email protected] as soon as you can, so we can try to find someone to cover for you.
What if my child is injured or decides not to keep going with Little Aths?
Please email us at [email protected] so we can reallocate your shifts.
Will you be tracking participation?
Yes. Our new platform reports on who has signed up for, and turned up to, their volunteer shifts. We’ll be tracking this and sending reminders as needed.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You just enter your name, email and mobile each time you sign up. Tick “Remember my details on this device” and they’ll be filled in for you next time.
I’ve never done this before. Which role should I choose?
Field events like Long Jump, Shot Put or Vortex are a great place to start. You’ll work alongside other parents, with a coach nearby, and each event has a one-page volunteer guide you can read beforehand.
If you’re happy to go wherever you’re needed, sign up as a Contingency Volunteer.
Can both parents volunteer on the same night?
Yes. Each person signs up separately with their own name and email, using the same athlete name so we can match you to your family.
I want to be with my child’s group. How do I do that?
Sign up as a chaperone for your child’s age group. Parents aren’t otherwise permitted on the track or field, so this is the way to be alongside the athletes. You’ll be supervising the whole group, not just your own child.
A date or role I want is full. What now?
Popular nights fill up, so sign up early. If your preferred night is full, pick another Friday or another role on the same night.
What if competition is cancelled?
If a competition night is cancelled (for example, due to bad weather), we’ll let everyone know on TeamApp. That week’s program is skipped rather than rescheduled.
