01

Communication

How do I get in touch with the club?+

Email us any time at [email protected]. We also use this address to reach parents directly, so please make sure CLAC isn’t landing in your spam folder.

Are you on Facebook?+

Yes — find us on Facebook for season updates, results and photos.

What is Team App and do I need it?+

Team App is our preferred communication tool — it’s available as a webpage and a phone app, and it’s where we post events, news and volunteering sign-ups. Most content is members-only, so simply visiting the site isn’t enough; you’ll need to request access, which the committee verifies before approving.

We recommend signing up in a browser first, then downloading the iOS/Android app afterwards:

  • Head to clac10.teamapp.com and click “Join”
  • Enter your email and password, then request access to CLAC — include enough detail in your message so we know who you are

Stuck? Ask any committee member or another parent for a hand getting started.

How do you communicate athletes’ results?+

Through Results HQ — results are uploaded there after each competition day, so you can look up your athlete’s times and placings online.

02

Season & Competition

What’s happening this season?+

Our Information Day & Skills Clinic is Saturday 12 September, 12:00–2:00pm at George Knott Athletics Track. Weekly Tuesday training begins Tuesday 6 October, 4:00–5:00pm, and our first competition night — Welcome to the Season — is Friday 9 October, 5:30–7:30pm, where you can try events, collect competition tags and check out uniforms.

The season runs 18 weeks in total: 16 competition meets plus 2 Nitro/Handicap nights. Summer membership automatically includes the Cross Country season the following April–August.

Do I need to attend every week?+

No — attend as many weeks as suit your family. To qualify for a participation award at the end of the season, athletes need to attend at least five weeks.

What time do events run?+

Competitions run Friday evenings, 5:30–7:30pm. All U8–U17 athletes compete in four events (sprint, distance, jump & throw); U6–U7 athletes take part in a mix of events and “on track” skill-development activities with a qualified coach. If your athlete needs to collect a bib or uniform, arrive a little early — the committee is usually on site from 5:00pm.

TimeActivity
5:30pmWarm up & volunteer registration
5:45pmEvents start
7:30pmFinish — all age groups, including U6–U7

The weekly event program is posted on Team App only (it isn’t published on the website).

What’s the weather policy?+

Hot: competition is called off if the Bureau of Meteorology temperature for Melbourne exceeds 38°C at the start of, or during, the program.

Wet: competition usually proceeds, though the program may switch to a Wet Weather format depending on conditions. Sessions may be cancelled for lightning or other unsafe weather — the Competition Manager makes the call, following LAVic policy. Check Team App on the day if you’re unsure.

Sun smart: bring a hat, sunscreen and your own water bottle — and please label your child’s hat, bottle and clothing so lost property doesn’t pile up by season’s end.

What level of ability does my child need?+

None — our emphasis is Family, Fun & Fitness. Children of any skill or fitness level are welcome, and everyone is encouraged to chase their own personal bests (PBs).

03

Parents & Safety

Can I bring dogs?+

Little Athletics Victoria policy doesn’t allow dogs at LAVic events (assistance dogs excepted) — please leave the furry family members at home.

Do parents have to volunteer?+

Yes — Little Athletics runs entirely on volunteers, and we can’t operate without parents pitching in each week. Each family is asked for 4 shifts across the season: see the volunteer coordinator when you arrive, or sign up in advance via ClubVolunteer.

Don’t know anything about athletics? No problem — volunteering is the best way to learn, and coaches, committee members and experienced parents are on hand at every station to walk you through your role.

Can’t make it to competition nights (younger kids needing supervision, etc)? Join the committee instead — there’s always a need for help with treasury, communications, sponsorship, uniforms or the website.

What are the rules around drop-offs?+

Children must always be in the care of a responsible adult while at CLAC — this matters most in case of illness or injury. If you can’t stay, please arrange another adult to supervise. We check in on athletes periodically, and if a child appears unsupervised and we can’t reach a parent or guardian, we may need to report it to police.

Can I take photos of my children?+

We know everyone’s excited to capture that big moment! Please feel free to take photos of your own child at key moments. If you’re posting to social media, please make sure your photos don’t include other identifiable athletes without their parent’s permission. Athletes whose parents have opted out of photography wear a bib with a red marker — please be mindful of this when framing your shots.

What if I don’t give consent for my child’s photo to be taken?+

When you register your child through Little Athletics Victoria, the registration form asks for your photography consent preference. We don’t take many photos for social media at Collingwood, but professional photographers are often present at Regional and State events and try to capture all athletes in their key moments.

If you’d like to opt out, email us at [email protected] to let us know — your child will then be given a bib with a red marker indicating they haven’t consented to photography.

Can I accompany my child to events?+

Little Athletics is a great opportunity to grow confidence and independence in our kids, so we ask all parents and observers to stay on the outfield. On a busy Friday night we can have several hundred athletes and even more family members on site, so it’s critical that coaches and coordinators can clearly see what’s happening at each event, and that we keep track crossings to a minimum — you don’t want to be the one who steps out at the wrong moment as the U14s come barrelling around the corner into the home straight!

Observers are welcome to watch from the bleachers or the hill, or to make their way around the back of the straight via the outside of the track (not across it).

If you feel your child would benefit from having you close by, we encourage you to take up one of several chaperone volunteer roles available each week for the younger age groups. Chaperones accompany the age group and support coaches by helping keep the team coordinated, moving smoothly between events and keeping an eye on group behaviour — note that the role is to look out for and support the whole team, not just your own child.

Parents on the infield who aren’t wearing a red volunteer bib will be asked to move back to the outfield.

Where do I park?+

Parking at George Knott Reserve is limited. Heidelberg Road runs clearways during peak hours on Friday nights and parking inspectors are often about, so please stick to designated spaces (including keeping off the grassy areas of local walkways). There’s ample parking across Heidelberg Road, along the Esplanade and on Fenwick St in Clifton Hill, with two sets of lights for a safe crossing.

Do volunteers need a Working with Children Check?+

Yes — all committee members, chief officials, coaches, and any volunteer without their own child at the Centre need a current Working with Children (WWC) Check.

It’s free to apply at workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au.

Registration & Fees

How do I register?+

Registration runs through the Little Athletics Victoria portal. If you’re renewing, head straight to the renewal link; if this is your first season, start with the Trial Member Program before committing to full registration.

What does membership cost?+
Family sizeFee
Family of 1$225
Family of 2$428
Family of 3$642
Family of 4$856
Family of 5$1,070

$89 of each registration is the Little Athletics Victoria affiliation fee — the rest funds CLAC’s program. A CLAC singlet ($35, compulsory) is also required, though last season’s singlet can be reused if you already have one.

Membership covers both the Summer and Cross Country seasons: club competition for all U6–U17 athletes, interclub competition for U9–U17, Tuesday training with Athletics Australia-qualified coaches, LAVic Junior Development Squad access (qualification dependent), and Regional/State competition for U9–U17 (entry dependent).

What if I can’t afford the fees?+

We never want cost to be the reason a child misses out. If you’re experiencing financial hardship, please get in touch with our President in confidence at [email protected] — we’re happy to talk through options to support your family.

What’s the Trial Member Program?+

New families can register for the Trial Member Program (via www.lavic.com.au) before committing to full registration. It runs alongside the main competition for the first four weeks of the season — trial athletes take part in the normal Friday program, and simply move into the main competition once they’ve completed full registration.

I already have a child registered — how do I add another?+

No problem — you’re still entitled to the family registration discount. Submit a registration application for the additional child (without paying), then contact the LAVic office; they can adjust the fee from their end and send an updated invoice, or take payment over the phone.

What age group is my child?+

Little Athletics caters for athletes aged 5–15. The one exception is a 4-year-old turning 5 before 31 December — they can register and compete as a 4-year-old. From 1 January, every member must have already turned 5 to take part. Not sure which group your child falls into? Use the LAVic age calculator.

What uniform do I need?+

Club singlet ($35) — available to purchase after registering; can be worn with or without a plain white t-shirt underneath.

Plain black shorts — required (no logos or pockets) for Regional and State competition; plain black leggings are fine at weekly CLAC meets, but not for Region/State events. Available at the club or any sports/department store.

Competition bib — shows the athlete’s name, age and registration number, and must be pinned to the front of the singlet every week (it carries a barcode for electronic timing). Bibs are provided after registration — unpin before washing, and re-attach carefully afterwards. You’ll need your bib every week to compete; they’re not easily replaced, so a replacement fee may apply at the club’s discretion if you need a new one.

Tip: a strip of clear tape or laminate over the pin corners stops the bib tearing over the course of the season.

I have a Get Active Kids Voucher — how does it work, and what do I do if something goes wrong?+
  • The voucher is worth up to $200 per eligible child, per round, towards registration/membership fees (and uniforms, if bought in the same transaction). It’s a Victorian Government program, not a club discount — full eligibility details are on the Get Active Victoria website.
  • Apply for the voucher before you pay. Enter the code (starts with “G11”) under “Vic Government” in the payment section of the registration form.
  • Already paid? Don’t apply for a voucher as well — apply for a reimbursement instead (payments from 1 May 2026 onwards, minimum $50 paid, with proof of payment).
  • Voucher applied but the remaining payment won’t go through? Try a different card, browser or device first.
  • Code not accepted, or not sure if it’s still valid? Codes can only be used once and each round has an expiry date.
  • For any of the above — payment issues, code problems, or reimbursement questions — email [email protected] with a screenshot of what you’re seeing and your voucher code, and the LAVic team will help you through it.

Results

What timing equipment do you use?+

We use gear from Timing Solutions — each lane runs a set of motion-sensitive timing poles.

Where can I see results?+

Results are published online at Results HQ, usually uploaded as quickly as possible after each competition day. Trouble finding a result or logging in? The Results HQ help forum can assist.

Cross Country

How does the Cross Country season work?+

Cross Country generally starts in April each year and is included in your annual Summer registration — no extra sign-up needed. Want Cross Country only? A separate standalone fee applies — the exact 26/27 amount will be confirmed closer to the season, so email [email protected] for the latest figure.

We’re part of the Eastern Metro Region; events are usually Sunday mornings, hosted in rotation by each club — including a week hosted by Collingwood, run by volunteers, so parents of participating athletes are asked to help out that week.

10:00am500mU6
10:15am1500mU9–U10
10:30am1000mU7–U8

Host locations rotate between Kew (Stradbroke Park), Box Hill (Gardiners Creek, Deakin Uni), Nunawading (Bill Sewart Athletic Track), Camberwell-Malvern (Orchard Grove), Ringwood (AC Robertson Field) and Doncaster (Ruffy Park) — a seasonal calendar confirming each week’s venue is published every year.
